The recently concluded tourism season was announced to be the best the Territory has had in a while, and Premier Dr. the Hon. Orlando Smith announced that preliminary indications suggests that 2014/2015 tourism season will rival the last.
Speaking on the August 18 NDP radio program that was aired on ZBVI radio the BVI Leader stated that there were increased arrivals this year and that even residents are commenting on the success. Premier Smith in explaining how great the tourist season was said: “If we were to look at the events that has happened over the last year, people have told me that this tourist season was the best we have had in many years.”
Premier Smith pointed out that the increased arrivals were a testament to the hard work of tourism officials. “The fact that there are so many more visitors this year than several years past is a good indication of the work that we have been doing to try to build that economy and all the indications are that the next tourist season will be just as good if not better than this year,” he said.
Minister for Communications and Works, Hon. Mark Vanterpool who was also on the NDP radio program commented on the successful season. He also announced that the impressive season can be attributed to the hard work of the Premier and the BVI Tourist Board: “It wasn’t the matter of the tourism increasing just by sitting and doing nothing tourist board along with the ministry of tourism of which the premier is the head has been working really hard to make that happen and we are glad to see the fruits,” the Minister declared.
