Frozen Waffles, Pancakes and French Toasts Recalled

RiteWay Food Markets issued an alert this week announcing that various Aunt Jemima frozen products are being recalled because of suspected Lysteria contamination.

The supermarket in a social media post noted that the voluntary recall was issued by Pinnacle Foods Inc. and involves all “Best By” dates of Aunt Jemima Frozen Pancakes, Frozen Waffles and Frozen French Toast Slices distributed nationally in the United States and Mexico.

It was reported that the company suspects that the recalled products might be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. However it was noted that no illnesses were reported as a result of the consumption of the products.

In the announcement Pinnacle Foods noted that the recall was being done as a precautionary measure to safeguard the health and safety of its customers.

The notice mentioned that Pinnacle Foods initiated the recall after testing indicated the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the plant environment. “We are working in coordination with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on this recall,” the company added.

Listeria monocytogenes is an organism which can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Although healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.

The recall only applies to the Aunt Jemima frozen products and does not include any Aunt Jemima dry mixes and syrups. Riteway Food Market asked customers to call with any concern.
