Mrs. Fraser is Newest Centenarian

On August 24th Mrs. Aleatha Fraser, who became the Territory’s newest centenarian received an official visit from His Excellency Governor Augustus Jaspert, Premier and Minister of Finance Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith, and Leader of the Opposition and First District Representative, Hon. Andrew Fahie.

This was Governor Jaspert’s first centenarian visit in the Territory after only arriving on Monday. Nonetheless the Governor’s Office stated that the new Governor was thrilled to have the opportunity to accompany the Hon Premier and Hon Fahie to Carrot Bay on Wednesday afternoon to wish Aleatha Fraser many happy returns on the occasion of her 100th birthday.”

It is customary for the Governor to present the new centenarian with a personal birthday card from Her Majesty the Queen, and it was stated that Mrs. Fraser received her card later in the week.

Premier Smith presented Fraser with a $5,000 cheque on behalf of the Government and people of the Virgin Islands, a tradition government established more than a decade ago to honour the Territory’s “golden citizens”.

The First District Representative in extending his birthday greeting to Mrs. Fraser said, “100yrs! Congratulations to our newest Centenarian in the Virgin Islands Mrs. Aleatha Fraser of Carrot Bay. God’s Blessings to her and the family.”
