Premier to Give Account to BVI Public Today

One month after the midterm mark Premier, Dr. the Hon. D. Orlando Smith will be delivering the address he promised last month in observance of his Government’s second year since winning the last election.

The Premier’s Office announced on Friday that Hon. Smith will present the mid-year review of his Government’s work via a radio and television simulcast on today Monday 10th July at 8:00 p.m.

Last month while speaking in the House of Assembly Hon. Smith promised to address the Territory to recap his government’s term in office. The BVI Leader announced in the House of Assembly on 6th June that his administration has been working hard to deliver its promise to the people.

“We are at midpoint of this term, and while Madame Speaker there is quite a lot more to be done, I must say that I am proud of what we have accomplished so far as a government,” Hon. Smith said.

The BVI Leader mentioned a few of his government’s achievement, and in the process emphasized a special one: “To me one of the most significant things for the people of this Territory is the introduction of the National Insurance program. I speak to people all over this country and I recognize that they too everybody is very happy and very pleased and grateful that this is something that this government was able to bring to fruition.”

The Premier also pointed out that his Government has done infrastructural program, and particularly noted the business development initiative: “We recognized that we’d like to expand the nature of the economy, that’s why we have placed a lot of focus over the years on business development; small and medium size enterprises; and considerable work has been done and I can see the fruits of that labour,” he said.

During that sitting the Premier promised to deliver a more detailed address to the Territory to chronicle his government’s full achievement and plans: “What I intend to do very shortly is make a more significant statement of what we have done during the past two years and we expect to be going in the next two years, Madame Speaker”

The Territory went to the polls on 8th June 2015 and elected the incumbent Government led by Premier Smith; and two years into the four year term.
