Even with continued criticisms over its constant delay, BVI Airways has now set a new date to start direct flights between Miami and the BVI.
Yesterday, April 11th, during an Open House, officials told the media that they are anticipating to start in June.
"Hopefully we get that (approval from United States regulator) stamped by the end of the month and we are looking for hopefully in June to start operation," said Brad Goggin, Director of Flight Operations.
He also promised that they intend to provide affordable ticket prices.
"The ticket prices will be cheaper and quicker than you currently can get to Miami. We have not really set any commercial cost at the moment. I came back from Miami last week and it was over $500 one way," he said.
Recently, the airline received praise from the Chairman of the BVI Tourist Board Mr. Russell Harrigan.
"This will be transformative for the BVI economy and for our tourism marketing globally, and it should allow us to compete more effectively with other Caribbean destination," Harrigan said about the direct flights.
"This much needed boon to tourism should be seen as a major advancement for the BVI as we seek to move our global trade to the next level.”
